The Saakhelu Kiwe Kame is the most important ritual from the indigenous tribe NASA in Colombia. The people from Montes de María got displaced by paramilitary groups more than 15 years ago. More than 12 000 farmers lost their land and are now living in poor neighborhoods, without farmland and the possibility to work. They are still waiting for the government to fulfill their promises and to provide them with the needed guarantees.
The indigenous NASA tribe lives right in the middle of a war and drug-trafficking zone. One month before my visit, a girl got killed by a misled FARC bomb. At nights there were fightings between guerillas and the military just 100 meters next to the houses. In these circumstances unarmed indigenous guards are trying to protect their people.
